WindMW
Operator of the Meerwind Süd and Meerwind Ost offshore wind farms off Helgoland
WindMW operates the two offshore wind farms Meerwind Süd and Meerwind Ost, which have been running since September 2014 directly off Helgoland in the German North Sea. With 80 turbines in the 3.6 MW class and a total capacity of up to 288 MW, the wind farms supply around 360,000 households with renewable electricity and avoid roughly one million tonnes of CO₂ a year compared with conventional coal generation. The wind farm was completed in a remarkable construction period of only 18 months, making it one of the early showcases of German offshore wind development.
For AquaVentus, WindMW is a member of particular symbolic and practical significance: hardly any other member lies literally closer to the sea area in which AquaDuctus is one day meant to transport hydrogen. WindMW brings many years of operating experience in harsh North Sea conditions and represents exactly the type of wind farm operator that could benefit directly from combined offshore connections and hydrogen production in future.
