Roundtable on the reform of the Offshore Wind Energy Act: Hydrogen is a cost-saving supplement, not competition to the power grid

Berlin, December 3, 2025. At a high-level AquaVentus expert discussion on offshore sector coupling, the almost 60 participants from the energy industry, the German Bundestag and the Federal Network Agency were in clear agreement that combining electricity and hydrogen infrastructure is not only technically possible, but also urgently required from an economic perspective. The study by Frontier Economics shows that combined connections increase the utilization of electricity infrastructure from 52 to 65 percent while requiring lower investment.
