AquaVentus as a Driver of the Energy Transition

Green hydrogen from offshore wind power — our contribution to transforming the energy system.

Guiding Principle: Energy Transition

The AquaVentus Förderverein e.V. is at the heart of one of the most significant initiatives for the energy transition in Europe. With a clear focus on the sustainable production and transport of green hydrogen from offshore wind energy, we make a decisive contribution to transforming the energy system — towards a CO₂-neutral future.

Vision and Mission

Our goal is to advance the use of offshore wind energy for large-scale green hydrogen production. Together with our members and partners, we work on developing and implementing innovative solutions to accelerate the energy transition.

Acceptance as a Basic Prerequisite

Where people recognise and positively associate the benefit and added value for themselves and society, the energy transition succeeds. The use of offshore wind energy for green hydrogen creates exactly this acceptance:

Lower visibility

Offshore installations are far from residential areas — less visible and audible than onshore facilities.

No land use conflicts

Since installations are built at sea, there is no competition for land use, which frequently causes conflicts in onshore projects.

Economic benefits

New jobs and economic opportunities in coastal regions increase local support for such projects.

Projects for the Future

Within the AquaVentus project network, we coordinate pioneering initiatives:

Offshore Hydrogen Production

Development and installation of electrolysers on the high seas.

Transport Infrastructure

Building a hydrogen pipeline system with direct connection to European energy markets.

International Cooperation

Harmonisation of standards and regulation for successful implementation across national borders.

Our Role in the Energy Transition

As a Förderverein, we create the necessary conditions to turn visions into reality:

  • Promoting scientific and technical innovations: We support research and development to advance offshore hydrogen production technologies.
  • Shaping policy frameworks: Support in developing regulatory and legal standards, including through our work at the European level.
  • Networking and dialogue: Platforms such as workshops and conferences to bring together the relevant stakeholders.

Together for a Green Future

The energy transition is a joint task. With AquaVentus, we pool the expertise of companies, research institutions and policymakers to create solutions for a sustainable energy supply together.
