Berlin Discussion Forum – Transition from Gas Markets to Hydrogen Markets

Over the summer, the transition to hydrogen gained further momentum. The direction of travel has become clearer with the approval of the EU Delegated Acts on Renewable Hydrogen in June, and Germany announcing its new National Hydrogen Strategy in July. In the last week of September, the European Commission, EU member states and the private sector discussed auctions for imports of renewable hydrogen to the EU, including using the H2Global mechanism. After conducting the first international auction for hydrogen products in December 2022, the H2Global foundation (and its Hydrogen Intermediary Company Hintco) is well placed to enable a rollout of auctions for the EU to make progress towards its target of 10 million tonnes of renewable hydrogen imports by 2030.
